Stadio Comunale Sant'Elia is a football stadium located in Cagliari on the Italian island of Sardinia. It is the home ground for local team, Cagliari Calcio. The capacity of the ground has changed much over the years. When constructed, it held 60,000 fans. Later it was renovated for the 1990 World Cup reducing that number to around 40,000. It has since been refurbished twice, reducing the seating even further to 16,000.
During World Cup 1990, Stadio Comunale Sant'Elia hosted three Group F matches. All of were England games, suggesting to many (although never confirmed by FIFA) that the venue was chosen to help contain any possible English hooliganism (which was a significant concern at the time).
